Description of Conference: The Conference is organized by the Main Library of Wroclaw University of Technology and is being held under the auspices of Prof. Eugeniusz Rusi?ski - Vice-Rector for Research.
Following the traditional format, the Conference will focus around three main subject modules:
THE ROLE OF THE ACADEMIC LIBRARY FOR THE UNIVERSITY AND THE REGION:
* Development of library services focused on e-learning, e-teaching and courses in English –examples of successful solutions.
* Presentations of programs and courses to fulfill the library`s statutory mission as a cultural, education, scientific, and innovation centre for a city, a region and a country – project descriptions and evaluation reports presented by program participants.
* Embedded Librarianship - can we do it better?
* The information player – a competitor or a partner?
* Scientific secretary and a library marketing specialist – a whim or necessity?
* A young librarian – training workshops for the students of library and information science in the libraries, interesting tutorial offers, common projects to maintain and expand the prestige of a library profession in society.
* Counting on library statistics- annual reports for the library and the community as well as government units, accreditation of the university faculties, supporting surveys.
DOCUMENTATION OF UNIVERSITY PUBLICATIONS (PolBit Group Meeting):
A core collection of research materials, representative publications of the academic staff in Poland and abroad. Categorization of documents registered in databases, scope, range, completeness, legislation, ability to use bibliometric data as tools for university research policy, different kinds of surveys, technical solutions concerning information tools, access to full text publications and the need of coordination various activities - examples of model solutions.
ELECTRONIC SOURCES IN THE LIBRARY AND ON THE MARKET:
* Financing electronic resources ( domestic licenses, consortia, subscriptions),
* Models for purchasing of electronic resources versus the needs of the library,
* Collection analysis: assessment and evaluation ( a pig in a poke?),
* Information package versus surveys on database usage,
* Cataloguing and information on electronic resources,
* Ebooks and other electronic resources,
* Libraries without books? Space, users, offers, librarians, challenges
