Description of Conference: This timely seminar follows the publication of the Independent Review of the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England, and will include keynote addresses from the Review leader, Dr John Dunford. It will bring together key policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the recommendations of the Review - in particular changes to the remit of the Children's Commissioner, the Commissioner's role in relation to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and increased parity with the powers of the Children's Commissioners for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
Sessions will also examine the direction of government policy with regard to children, and the future of youth services in a period of budgetary restraint - focusing on recreational activities, careers advice and the proposed National Citizenship Service. Access to young people's services, the levels and methods of funding available and the role of young people's voices in shaping services for their local area will be considered.
This seminar is CPD certified.
