Sub : National Conference on Latest trends & Innovations for the development of Tourism sector in India in July -2011 in S.V.University Campus,Tirupati –req-regard.
Tourism has been consistently considered as an industry of worldwide significance. In fact, for many centuries, Tourism has been the largest commodity in International trade. Of late, it acts as the second largest foreign exchange earner after oil and petroleum. More over, it also copiously contributes considerable amount on employment, improving standards of living of the people, foreign exchange and then by facilitating an overall developments of a country.
Tourism is the largest service sector in India with the contribution of 8.78% of the total employment in India. India witnesses more than 5 million annual foreign tourists and 562 million domestic tourists. The tourism industry in India generated more than US$100 billion in 2009-10 and is expected to increase even to US$275.5 billion by 2018 at a 9.4% annual growth rate. Domestic tourism in the same year was massive at 650 million. Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu received the lion’s share of these visitors. Concerted efforts are being made to promote new forms of tourism such as rural, cruise, medical and eco-Tourism which means travel to enjoy and appreciate nature.
According to World Travel and Tourism Council, India will be a tourism hotspot from 2009–2018, having the highest 10 year growth potential. The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2007 ranked Tourism in India 6th in terms of price competitiveness. Tourism in India needs to be understood in the global context of competing destinations. India's 5000 years of history, its length and breadth, and the variety of geographic features make its tourism basket large and varied. It presents heritage and cultural tourism along with medical, business and sports tourism. India has a growing medical tourism sector.
Awareness is still nascent if not absolutely nix on tourism and its development in India and can be considered as one of the thrust areas of development. It is appropriate to bring pertinent persons on a common platform to bring increased awareness and thoroughly discuss the significance, employment potential, foreign exchange and pros and cons of tourism. At this juncture it can be nursed to introduce Courses at Graduate and Post Graduate level on Tourism in Directorate of Distance Education, S.V.University, Tirupati. It becomes a beacon to the society.
Proverbial persons in the field of tourism from nook and corner of India will be assembled to discuss about Tourism in the proposed National Conference on Latest Trends and Innovations for the Development of Tourism Sector in India. The deliberations of the conference will be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism,Govt of India, for the development of Tourism industry on one hand and creation of employment potential on the other hand.
Hence, this plea is for the Tourism development planners & partners and philanthropists for their participation in the conference and to come out with fruitful deliberations for the development of Tourism industry in India.
