Description of Conference: ICIAM 2011 will highlight the most recent advances in the discipline and demonstrate their applicability to science, engineering and industry. In addition to the traditional, strong focus on applied mathematics, the congress will emphasize industrial applications and computational science. Industrial mathematics will be featured prominently through an integrated program which will highlight the many outstanding contributions of applied mathematics. ICIAM 2011 will also be an opportunity to demonstrate to young researchers and graduate students the vast potential of mathematics.

The Congress is being planned by the Canadian Applied & Industrial Mathematics Society (CAIMS), the Mathematics of Information Technology & Complex Systems (MITACS) and the Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics (SIAM).

ICIAM 2011 program

ICIAM 2011 will highlight major advances in the mathematical sciences discipline and demonstrate their utility in science, engineering and industry. In addition to the traditional strong ICIAM focus on applied mathematics, there will be an emphasis on industrial applications and on computational science and engineering. Features will include:

Mini-symposia across the breadth of applied and industrial mathematics

Contributed talks

Industrial mathematics. There will be a focus on application of mathematics to problems arising from industry, the economy, and society, including sessions featuring MITACS industrial research projects. An Industrial Advisory Committee will help plan events of particular interest to mathematicians and computational scientists with industrial connections.

Poster session will consist of research posters presented by students, academics and industry.

Embedded and satellite meetings. The CAIMS, MITACS and SIAM Annual Meetings will be held concurrently with the Congress.

Educational activities will be organized targeted to the large number of students expected to attend.

Public outreach sessions will be organized in the forms of public lectures, interactive displays, special activities for representatives from government agencies and departments, and press activities.

Exhibits. Exhibitors will be housed in the central gathering area to maximize exposure.

The ICIAM 2011 Scientific Program Committee has established a number of panels of scientists in different emerging areas of interest to the ICIAM community. These panels will organize one or more mini-symposia in these areas as well as a thematic speaker who would most often be the first speaker in that mini-symposia. The panel scientists for ICIAM 2011 are:
